How do I join the Forum?

Sigurfreys Forum

Before you join the online discussion in Sigurfreys Forum you have to register as a member.

You start by going to the Forum main page. There in the right corner you click on the Register button.

You choose a username and fill in your email address. Make sure your username does not contain any Non-English letters. After a short while you will get an email with a password and a link to the Forum.

Before you participate in the discussion it is important that you fill out your Member Profile. The member profile comprises of six tabs:

1. Personal Identity. The first tab allows the member to set up their personal details. Such as First name, Second name, Email, Location and Short biography. Your username or Login Id can not be changed. You can however choose any Display name you like.

2. Your Online Identity. Members can set up their various online contact details. Among them might be your Facebook, Twitter or Skype name.

3. Personal Options. This tab allows a member to set up some personalisation options. They can auto subscribe to topics, hide their on-line status and customise their time zone.

4. Change Password. Changing password is self explanatory, members can change their forum password and are encouraged to do so.

5. Select Your Avatar. You are able to use three different kind of Avatars. Gravatar, a globally recognized avatar, upload your own avatar image or use a default forum avatar. We stronly recommend you use Gravatar as is explained to do here.

6. Setup Your Signature. Users can set up a regular text signature. You can also supply a URL to an image which will be shown beside your text signature.

Please take time to customise your Member Profile.

That way you introduce yourself to other members and strengthen your involvement in the Forum.

How do I put an image with my comments?Back to top

To put an image or a Gravatar (globally recognized avatar) by your comments you must register at Gravatar.com.

There you follow simple instructions, upload an image and it will display on Sigurfreyr.com (Sigurfreys Forum, Sigurfreys Videos and Sigurfreys Articles) and actually on other web sites too.

The image you upload is associated with your email address. So if you sign up at Gravatar.com for example with per@noma.nu it is necessary to use the same email address when you submit comments to Sigurfreys Forum.

A Gravatar adds a personal touch to your comments. Make sure to use this free service.

How do I subscribe with RSS or Email?Back to top

RSS feeds allow users to monitor delivery of content from web sites of their own choice. New articles and other web material is collected in one place, saving the user a visit to many web pages.

RSS feed In order to view content you have subscribed to you need a RSS-reader. Google Reader is a good example of a RSS-reader. We recommend that you use it to subscribe to material you want to collect.

To subscribe to new content of Sigurfreys Forum you should click on the orange RSS feed button here on the sidebar.

It is also possible to get notification of new content via Email. You simply click here. Then the subscription service FeedBurner takes over and you follow the simple instructions outlined. You can also subscribe to updates via Email by clicking on the RSS button located in the footer below.

Delicious.com offers a service that allows you to bookmark web pages online. This means you can view web sites you have bookmarked, not only within your own browser or computer, but from any computer in the world, as long as it is connected to the internet. You just go and visit your own personal bookmark service at Delicious.com.

Social media like Twitter and Facebook enjoy growing popularity. They are a convenient way to communicate with people all over the world, access information and share them with others.

In order to connect to Sigurfreyr.com you need to open your own Twitter or Facebook account. Do it now if you don´t have this important free service already. After that you simply click on the Twitter and Facebook buttons here on the sidebar.

When you join social media networks you connect to people with similar interests and can influence the debate that is going on.

Strength of social media, like Twitter and Facebook, lies in the fact that people are increasingly publishing their own material on the web. Web users have changed from being primarily passive viewers to being active contributers.

Some believe this will not only transform human relationships but also have great impact on economic and political systems of nations.

Below each post there are nine buttons to the most popular social media. By clicking on them you can send any content you like to your friends.

Like If you like the post you have read, you can click on the Like button below it. Then you will see your profile picture under the button and put a link to the post on your Facebook. This of course applies only to those who have their own Facebook account.

Below each post there are buttons you can click on to get a printer friendly version of the text. This way you can save ink and distribute it to your friends or keep it for yourself to read later.

You can also send a copy of the post to any one who has an email account.

Feel free to distribute content from Sigurfreys Forum to any one you like. Share it not only with friends and family members that agree with you. But also with those who don´t agree with your point of view.
